May 28, 2021; Yorktown, VA – A new era has begun for female soccer players and enthusiasts of the women’s game in the Hampton Roads region.  VIRGINIA FA will kickoff its inaugural season in the UWS League Two on Saturday in Leesburg against NOVA FC before returning to Williamsburg for its home debut at Cooley Field Sunday June 6th for its first of 5 home matches this summer.

The time is right for Women’s soccer in Hampton Roads with the number of quality college programs and youth clubs developing high level talent that will now have a landing spot to continue their playing careers and create a pathway to reach their goals. “The Hampton Roads region is rich with talented female players deserving of a pathway that provides top level competition and an opportunity to advance into professional soccer.” says coach Kevin Darcy. “I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach all levels of the female game from club to high school, to ODP, college and minor league/professional teams in the WPSL.  The time is right, the excitement is building from players and fans and we can’t wait to kick off the season bringing UWS soccer to the area.”

In addition to coach Darcy the staff will include, one of the top female players to come out of the area, Kellie (Jenkins) Ernst, Jonathan Baca, goalkeeper coach Travis Brown and performance director Brian Witt.  The current roster includes players from W&M, Hampton University, Old Dominion, Radford, Virginia Tech, UNC Greensboro and the University of Minnesota.  Interested players are encouraged to contact the club for an opportunity to become a part of the 1st team or the reserve team. “The player pool is coming together well and I am especially excited to have Kellie and all of our coaches on staff.  She was a part of our WPSL team that played out of Cooley Field back in 2012-13 and posted some big wins like the one over former US Open Cup champs New York Athletic Club 3-2. Cooley is a great venue and we look forward to creating some new memories for the players, staff and fans of the women’s game!”

Tickets to the home matches will be $6, free for children 6 & under and will be made available through the team website at www.virginiauws.com.  Interested sponsors can also contact the team through the site to gain exposure on the website, social media and at our home stadium Cooley Field.
