VA Futsal Pro Turns It On in the 2nd Half for Opening Win at Home

May 25, 2024; Newport News, VA - Superliga newcomer Evan Burke scored the equalizer and the go ahead goal to propel VA Futsal Pro to the result Saturday night as they hosted the Washington Fire.  2nd year defender Reese Wolf put the game away with the final tally as the DC squad pressed forward chasing the tying goal only to concede the counter attack that sealed the victory for the home side.

After a goal on the kickoff by VA's Ahmed Alba, the visiting Fire found their rhythm scoring goals off the buildup and against the run of play pushing their lead to 6-2 at the half.  "We created a lot of quality chances in the 1st half but the final ball was poor.  It also took a half to sort out our defensive shape and system, but once we got that in place and were detailed in front of goal we dominated the second half."  says coach Darcy.  "Washington is a good side but I felt it was a matter of time till we found our way and got on top of the game."

Veteran attacker Alba scored two goals and assisted on another playing as the target player and a force all game long for VA.  Shawn Anthony and Abdul Mohkatar scored a goal apiece in their Superliga debut and Devin Hayes was solid in goal providing timely saves and good distribution jumpstarting the attack throughout the match.  Davian and Damien Jackson along with Cameron Wizzard were strong in possession and Luuay Hassan provided quality minutes in defense for VA.
