VA Futsal Pro Wins Home Opener 10-9
VA Futsal Pro defeated the Washington Fire 10-9 in a hotly contested home opener Sunday night at the friendly confines of the Denbigh Community Center in Newport News. The Fire jumped out to an early 2 goal lead before the home VA side found there form going in to the half leading 8-6. After missing some counter attack chances in front of goal, the home side maintained a 2 goal cushion for the 3rd and 4th quarters before a late run by Washington pulled them back to within a goal with 3 minutes remaining in the match. VA sat in and killed off the final few minutes to secure the victory at home and their first in the new Futsal Superliga Pro Division.
Pivot player Jermain Reid led the home side, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists, but more importantly with setting the tempo and building a rhythm in the team. Forward Scott Signorelli, 3 goals and 1 assist, was a handful all night with posting up in the final 3rd, holding the ball, drawing fouls and setting up chances consistently. Clement Barrett had 2 goals and an assist and Reese Wolf scored a goal and organized a solid VA defense. Kebba Secka was solid in goal with 10 saves and Ahmed Alba had a goal and assist along with Ali Ibrahim tallying a goal.
VA Futsal Pro travels to Maryland on Saturday, to even their record, for a 6:00 kickoff vs the Baltimore Kings at the Benfield Sportscenter (1031 Benfield Blvd, Millersville, MD 21108).
Futsal Superliga returns to the Denbigh Community Center on Saturday September 23rd and Sunday October 1st for 6:00pm kickoffs against the Baltimore Kings and In10sity.
